A climate protester has stuck to the Cambie Bridge

A protester in Vancouver has been arrested after sticking to the Cambie Bridge as part of ongoing climate activism in the city.

Extinction Rebellion (ER) Vancouver released a statement sharing that on Friday, October 22, a woman named Tara was arrested after sticking to the Cambie Bridge – a main road connecting downtown Vancouver.

Vancouver police said no one was glued to the bridge but there had been an arrest.

Friday marked the seventh day of protests by ER Vancouver as part of a two-week October rebellion campaign demanding climate action, including an end to federal fossil fuel subsidies.

The protester is the 15th person to be arrested since the activism began on Saturday, October 16. Daily Hive has contacted the Vancouver Police Department for further details and will update this story.

In a statement, ER Vancouver said Tara was at risk of arrest because “Western imperialism perpetuates evil by supporting fossil fuel subsidies and ignoring climate research.”

“Those of us who are born into this system learn that there is no choice but to adapt to this evil. There is an alternative. I want my niece and nephews to have every chance to thrive. To create change, we must interrupt the evil. This is our job.

There will be another demonstration on the Cambie Bridge on Saturday October 23, with participants meeting in Coopers Park at noon.

Here is the full schedule of ER Vancouver events, including the locations of each remaining day of their October rebellion:
