Local government organizations, nonprofits and others that help certain businesses apply for a federal program to help them recover from COVID-19 have until July 23 to submit proposals to the Small Business Administration (SBA ).
The SBA will be accepting applications for its new Community Navigator pilot program for about a week and a half longer than the previous deadline, said Matt Coleman, SBA’s regional communications director for New York State, New York region. ‘Atlantic.
Applicants should submit their application to grants.gov, using the funding opportunity number CNP-2021-01. Eligible persons must meet the requirements of this funding opportunity and demonstrate that they are able to meet them.
Competitive grants will range from $ 1 million to $ 5 million over a two-year performance period. The SBA expects to make award decisions by September, also when performance periods begin. The pilot program, established by the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021, focuses on businesses owned by socially and economically disadvantaged individuals, women, and veterans.
âThe program itself (Community Navigator) is not directly aimed at small businesses. It is up to nonprofits and municipalities to improve their capacity to help small businesses access federal programs and federal small business assistance. It could be New York State, local government resource partners or other organizations that provide targeted outreach to small businesses in underserved communities⦠âhe said. âChambers of commerce can apply. “
The SBA said eligible applicants specifically include:
⢠An economic development organization or similar organization;
⢠Native American tribal organization (other than federally recognized tribal governments);
⢠Native American tribal government (recognized at the federal level);
⢠county governments;
⢠state governments;
⢠municipal or cantonal administrations;
⢠SBA resource partners;
⢠Small Business Development Centers (SBDC);
⢠Business centers for women;
⢠Service Corps of Retired Executives (SCORE);
⢠Business Awareness Centers for Veterans (VBOC);
⢠community development financial institutions; and
⢠non-profit colleges and universities.
âI think that’s an advantage for anyone who is considering applying, to have at least an extra week and a half,â Coleman said. “It is subject to www.grants.gov then it is filtered to the SBA in Washington. All companies seeking a federal grant can search this website, if they are qualified for this federal grant.
The Community Navigator pilot program provides smaller businesses in rural or metropolitan areas with an additional tool to access federal programs in communities near them, Coleman said.
